What We Will Cover

The goal of this page is to thoroughly explain the heart, values, beliefs, mission, vision, and structure of Velocity Church. We will cover:

  1. Who We Are
  2. Our Mission
  3. What We Believe
  4. The Velocity Vision
  5. How We View Membership

1. Who Are We?

Velocity Church began as a junior high youth group in the early 1970’s taught by Percy Pavloff. As time passed, the parents of those kids began to attend. As attendance grew, their house could no longer hold crowd. They began meeting in a day care center until purchasing the current property. Gatherings were held in the farmhouse on the property until the church building was constructed in 1983.

2. What Is Our Mission?

Mission Statement:

We exist to glorify God and to help people become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

We are a praying and worshiping church.

  • We are a house of prayer [Isaiah 56:6-8, Mark 11:17, Acts 2:42]
  • We are a house of worship [1 Chronicles 16:29, Psalm 29:2, 86:9, 95:6, 96:9, Romans 12:1, Hebrews 12:28]

We are designed to flourish.

  • We are created, redeemed, and anointed to flourish [Genesis 2:8,15, Ephesians 2:12-22, 1 Peter 1: 18-19, 1 John 2:20, 26:27]
  • We flourish in our identity [Romans 12:3-4, 1 Corinthians 6:11, 2 Corinthians 5:17-18, Ephesians 2:1-13]
  • We flourish in our community [Acts 2:40-47, Romans 12:6, 1 Peter 2:4-6]
  • We flourish in our destiny [Acts 13:1-3, Philippians 2:5-11, Ephesians 4:8, 11-16, 1 Peter 5:1-7]
  • We flourish in our process [Philippians 1:6, Hebrews 12:11-17, James 4:6-8]
  • We flourish in our legacy [Psalm 92:12-15, 145:4, Matthew 6:19-21, John 2:12-14]

We are people in pursuit.

  • With reckless abandon, we pursue the presence of God [Exodus 33:15-16, Psalm 132]
  • Relentlessly, we pursue the transformation of lives [Romans 1:16-17, 10:13-15,1 Corinthians 1:18]
  • Tirelessly, we pursue the flourishing of our community [Jeremiah 29:4-7]
  • With urgency and joy, we pursue an inheritance from the nations of the earth [Psalm 67:2-4, Matthew 28:18-20]

We are living a radiant life.

  • Know God: We pursue a deep and personal relationship with God. We don’t just want to know “about” God. We want to know Him as our Heavenly Father.
  • Find Freedom: We don’t stay where we are. We believe God has created us to be free from sin, shame, guilt, and all things that pull us away from God
  • Discover Purpose: We have a purpose that goes beyond ourselves. A purpose to be sons and daughters of God who pursue our God given purpose.
  • Make a Difference:  We seek to make a difference in our world through the power of the Holy spirit. We make a difference in our personal lives, families, churches , and community.

We are becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

  • We lead people in discipleship through:
  • Weekend Services: 9:45am
  • January SEEK - 21 days of prayer and fasting
  • Membership
  • Growing Deeper - midweek prayer and worship
  • Water Baptism
  • Communion

3. What Does It Mean To Be A Praying And Worshiping Church?

We pursue the fullness and presence of the Holy spirit. We pursue all the gifts in our worship while simultaneously anchoring ourselves to the historical truths of scripture and to what the church of Jesus Christ held firmly to for 2,000 years. The Lord outlined five governing values for us. Think of these as five strands of DNA forming the genetic code for what it means of run to be radiant in our hearts and lives.

But the hour is coming and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. - John 4:23

Velocity Value #1: Word Centered

We are Word centered disciples that are part of a Word centered church. We value the Word of God as the steadfast source of truth that sustains us. The Word is a powerful catalyst for personal and cultural transformation.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:14-17 ESV

  1. The Importance of the Bible

[Deuteronomy 8:3. Isaiah 40:8, Amos 8:11, Matthew 4:1-11, John 10:35]

  • Everything that you need to be prepared, transformed, changed, and competent is contained in the Scriptures.
  • The Holy Word of God must be the center of our lives. It is unique, powerful, living, active, and sharper than any two-edged sword.
  • The Bible is comprised of 1,189 chapters and 66 books, written by around 40 authors, in 3 different languages, on 3 different continents, and over a time span of 1,500 years.
  • When western civilization has acted on the Word of God and obeyed, people prosper. When the Word of God has been dismissed or disobeyed, people are destroyed.
  • Many skeptics have attempted to prove it wrong. Many enemies had attempted to destroy it. Many critics have attempted to deconstruct it. Many pastors have attempted to water it down. But Jesus and the scriptures cannot be broken.

B. The bible is a spiritual book.

[John 6:63, Hebrews 4:12]

  • The Holy spirit and the bible work together. The Holy Spirit inspired the bible.
  • We are reading what god has spoken for all eternity. The same Spirit that’s in you is the same Spirit that inspired the Word at first, and He can help you read it.
  • The Bible is not just words. It is Spirit and life. It is the only book that, when you are reading it, it is actually reading you.
  • The bible shows us how to be saved and how to be right with god. The bible is a standard that is meant to govern our lives.

C. Build your life on the Word.

[Matthew 7:24-27, Romans 10:17]

  • He who hungers and thirsts for righteousness will be filled. If you don’t read the Bible, you won’t be hungry for it.
  • We, as Christians, aren’t just people who have bibles. We are people who are walking Bibles. We are the Word in flesh form to the world. You are the only bible many will ever read. What are they reading?
  • If we want our faith to grow, our commitment to the Word of God must grow.

Word centered next steps for you:

1. Read your Bible daily. Utilize daily bible reading plans to get started.

2. Attend Velocity’s weekend church service [9:45a]

3. Attend Growing Deeper mid-week prayer and worship service.

4. Watch Velocity’s Library of Sermons online at www.velocitychurch.life/media

Velocity Value #2: Spirit Empowered

We value the empowering presence of the Holy spirit in our midst, marking us as god’s people and manifesting Himself miraculously. The Spirit gives us boldness, supernatural courage, and strength. The Spirit enables believers to know God intimately and give the ability to witness powerfully. It is impossible for each of us to remain faithful to Jesus and fulfill god’s purpose for our lives without the Holy Spirit’s empowerment.

  1. We Acknowledge and Welcome the Person of the Holy Spirit

[2 Corinthians 13:14, Ephesians 4:30]

  • Jesus did not allow the early church to engage in missions until they received the filling and empowering of the Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, The Holy Spirit is not just a “force”.
  • The Holy Spirit can be “grieved” or “welcomed”.

B Being Spirit Empowered Includes Pursuing the Person, Power, Gifts, and Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

[1 Corinthians 12:8-11, Ephesians 5:18]

  • We are encouraged to be “continually filled” with the Holy Spirit.
  • The gifts/manifestations of the Spirit are as follows: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. All of these are empowered by one and the same Spirit.
  • The nine fruit of the Spirit are as follows:love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The fruit of the Spirit are the personality traits of the Holy Spirit. When we yield to those, it leads to sanctification.

C. We Depend Upon the Leading and Working of the Holy Spirit.

[Matthew 41, John 16:12-14, Acts 13:2, Galatians 5:25]

  • Jesus was led by the Spirit.
  • Disciples received divine leadership from the Holy Spirit.
  • As a church, we are called to depend on the leading and the working of the Holy spirit.
  • Our greatest endeavor is to lead our families and the church to where the Holy Spirit is leading, not where culture and the world are going.

Spirit Empowered Next Steps For You:

[1 Corinthians 12:8-11, Ephesians 5:16]

  1. Read School of the Spirit book by Pastor Lee Cummings
  2. Attend Growing Deeper prayer meetings

Velocity Value #3: Family Oriented

We are created in the image of God. A family bears His image. Family exists to bring glory to God and does this as they place God at the center. This is how we operate and function.

  1. The church is the family of God on earth.

[Romans 8:14-16, Ephesians 2:19, 1 John 3:1-2]

  • Family is not a man-made concept. For all eternity, God has existed as the family of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

B. The way the church functions is family oriented

[Ephesians 1:5]

  • You are valuable and you are irreplaceable. You are not just filling a role in the church. You are part of a family.

C. The way we relate to the world is family oriented.

[Malachi 4:6]

  • We see the lost as adopted sons and daughters in waiting. We don’t see them as enemies but as prodigals. We see a place at the table for them.

 THE WORLD

Family agrees with you on everything.

Love only affirms and never corrects.

Family fights against everyone who doesn’t belong.

The world wants to redefine and replace your family.

THE KINGDOM

Family loves you through everything.

There’s authority & correction because of love.

Family fights for everyone who feels they don’t belong.

The Kingdom wants to build and empower your family.

Family Oriented Next Steps For You:

  1. Participate in:
  • Velocity Kids Ministry
  • Velocity Youth

2. Attend:

  • Weekly services with family.
  • Prayer meetings

Velocity Value #4: Kingdom Focused

We value loyalty and commitment to the Kingdom of God and to Jesus our King above all other allegiances.

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.  -  Matthew 6:31-33 ESV

A. Jesus is our King: We live for His approval alone.

[John 18:36-37, Acts 17:6-7, Galatians 1:10]

  • We love how Jesus is Savior, but we don’t always like Jesus as King. We like Jesus dying on the cross for us, but we don’t always want Jesus on the throne of our lives.
  • A Kingdom is present wherever the King is.

B We are citizens of heaven and ambassadors to earth.

[2 Corinthians 5:20, Philippians 3:20, 1 Peter 2:9-12]

  • An ambassador enters into another kingdom to represent his King in that land. We are upon the earth to represent our King and say, “You need to be reconciled to God.”
  • An embassy is a place of protection for ambassadors in another kingdom. Powers that move against you cannot move past its gates. The church is the embassy of God on earth.

C. We maintain a personal and congregational practice to the presence of God.

[1 Corinthians 4:15-17]

  • We value the presence of God in our midst as we worship. We recognize that where the Spirit of the Lord is, the miraculous can be expected and anticipated.
  • It is His presence that defines us, empowers us, and sets us apart.

And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” And he said to him, “If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. Exodus 33:14-15 ESV

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy;at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11 ESV

Kingdom Focused Next Steps For You:

  1. Attend weekly services
  2. Attend prayer meetings
  3. Participate in Velocity outreach opportunities

Velocity Value #5: Mission Motivated

We value the urgent responsibility and privilege given to us by God to proclaim the Gospel.

[John 5:30, <ark 16:15, Acts 4:29-31, 1 Corinthians 9:19, 22-23]

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

A. Everyone is a missionary [John 5:30]

B. Everywhere is a mission field [Mark 16:15]

C. Every church is a mission base

D. Everything must be fueled by prayer [Acts 4:29-31]

E. Every means available must be utilized [1 Corinthians 9:19, 22-23]

Prayer Altars

What are altars?

Historically, altars were found only in the most holy of places [the tabernacle, the temple, etc.] This tradition marked our faith. However, we believe that God’s intention was always for so much more. That He intended for there to be three sacred altars in each of our lives.

  1. The personal
  2. The family
  3. The corporate

Throughout the history of our faith, we see that God showed up over and over again when He was at the center of each of these altars. Sadly, so much of our church history has shown that while God largely remained at the center of the corporate altar, He had been replaced at the center of our homes and lives.

At Velocity Church, our passion is to move you from only having encounters with God on Sundays to encountering His presence every single day. This means ensuring that God remains at the center of all three altars in our lives, the personal, the family, and the corporate.

4. What Do We Believe?

God the King and the Holy Trinity

[John 4:24, Isaiah 44:6, Psalm 89:14]

We believe that God is the eternal King. He is the infinite, unchangeable Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, goodness, justice, power and love. From all eternity, He exists as the One Living and True God in three persons of one substance, the Father, the Son, and the Holy spirit, equal in power and glory.

God the King and The Creator and Ruler of All Things

[Psalm 45:6, Daniel 4:3, Colossians 1:15-17]

We believe that God’s Kingdom is everlasting. From His throne, through His Son, His eternal Word, God created, upholds, and governs all that exists. This includes the heavenly places, the angelic hosts, the universe, the earth, every living thing, and human beings. God created all things very good.

Counterfeit Kingdom: Satan and Demonic Hosts

[Ephesians 6:12, Mark 3:22-26, Ephesians 2:1-2]

We believe that Satan was originally created as a great and good angel. He rebelled against God taking a host of angels with him, thus becoming “the adversary”. He was cast out of God’s presence. He is a usurper of God’s rule and he established a counterfeit kingdom of darkness and evil on the earth.

The Kingdom in Creation, the Fall, and the Doctrine of Original Sin

[Genesis 1:26-17, Genesis 3:1, Romans 5:12, 16]

We believe that God created mankind in His image, male and female, for relationship with Himself. God instituted marriage as a covenant relationship between a man and a woman. This is the foundation of the family and it reflects the nature of HIs devotion for His Bride, the Church.

Under the temptation off Satan, our original parents fell from grace. This brought sin, sickness, and God’s judgment of death to the earth. Through the fall, Satan and his demonic hosts gained access to God’s good creation.

Creation now experiences the consequences and effects of Adams original sin. Human beings are born in sin, subject to God’s judgement of death, and captive to Satan’s kingdom of darkness.

God’s Providence, Kingdom Law, and Covenants

[Hebrews 1:3, Romans 9:4]

We believe that God didn’t not abandon His rule over the earth which He continues to uphold by His providence. In order to bring redemption, God established covenants which revealed His grace to sinful people. In His covenant with Abraham, God bound Himself to His people Israel. He promised to deliver them from bondage to sin and Satan and to bless all the nations through them.

We believe that as King, God later redeemed His people by His mighty acts from bondage in Egypt. He established His covenant through Moses, revealing HIs perfect will and our obligation to fulfill it. The law’s purpose is to order our fallen race and to make us conscious of our moral responsibility. By the work of God’s Spirit, it convicts us of our sin and God’s righteous judgement against us and brings us to Christ alone for salvation.

We believe that when Israel rejected God’s rule over her as King, God established the monarchy in Israel. He then made an unconditional covenant with David, promising that his heir would restore God’s Kingdom and reign over His people as Messiah forever.

Christ the Mediator and Eternal King

[Galatians 4:4, Romans 12:4, Luke 1:30-35]

We believe that, in the fullness of time, God honored His covenants with Israel and His prophetic promises of salvation by sending His Son, Jesus, into the world. Conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He was fully God and fully human in one person. He is humanity as God intended us to be. Jesus was anointed as God’s Messiah, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, inaugurating God’s Kingdom reign here on earth. He overpowered the reign of Satan by resisting temptation, preaching the good news of salvation, healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead. Gathering His disciples, He reconstituted God's people as His Church to be

the instrument of His Kingdom.

After dying for the sins of the world, Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day, fulfilling the covenant of blessing given to Abraham. In His sinless, perfect life, Jesus met the demands of the law. In His atoning death on the cross, He took God's judgment for sin which we deserve as law breakers. By His death on the cross, He also disarmed the demonic powers.

The covenant with David was fulfilled in Jesus' birth from David's house, His Messianic ministry, His glorious resurrection from the dead, His ascent into heaven and His present rule at the right hand of the Father. As God's Son and David's heir, He is the eternal Messiah King, advancing God's reign throughout every generation and throughout the whole earth today.

The Ministry of the Holy Spirit

(Acts 2:1-4; 1Corinthians 12:4-7, 13; John 14:16-17)

We believe that the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Church at Pentecost in power, baptizing believers into the Body of Christ and releasing the gifts of the Spirit to them. The Spirit brings the permanent indwelling presence of God to us for spiritual worship, personal sanctification, building up the Church, gifting us for ministry, and driving back the power of Satan by the evangelization of the world through proclaiming the Message of Jesus and demonstrating the works of Jesus.

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is our abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe in the filling or the empowering of the Holy Spirit, often a subsequent experience to salvation, for ministry today. We believe in the present ministry of the Spirit and in the exercise of all of the biblical gifts of the Holy Spirit. We practice the laying on of hands for the empowering of the Spirit, for healing, and for recognition and empowering of those whom God has ordained to lead and serve the Church.

The Sufficiency of Scripture

(2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Psalm 19:7-9)

We believe that the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors of Holy Scripture so that the Bible is without error in the original manuscripts. We receive the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments as our final, absolute authority, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

The Power of the Gospel over the Kingdom of Darkness

(1 John 5:19, Ephesians 2:1-4, Mark 1:14-15)

We believe that the whole world is under the domination of Satan and that all people are sinners by nature and choice. All people, therefore, are under God's just judgment. Through the preaching of the Good News of Jesus and the Kingdom of God and the work of the Holy Spirit, God regenerates, justifies, adopts, and sanctifies through Jesus by the Spirit all who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. By this they are released from Satan's domain and enter into God's Kingdom reign.

The Church: Instrument of the Kingdom

(Ephesians 4:3-6, 1Peter 2:9-10, Ephesians 5:23)

We believe in the one, holy, universal Church. All who repent of their sins and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and form the living Body of Christ, of which He is the Head and of which we are all members.

Baptism and the Lord's Supper

(Matthew 28:19-20, 1Corinthians 11:23-26)

We believe that Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church: water baptism and the Lord's Supper. Both are available to all believers.

Marriage

(Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:22-24, Ephesians 5:22-23

Marriage is a covenant relationship between one man and one woman* and was established by God as the foundation of family and human society, reflecting the nature of Christ's sacrificial love and devotion for His bride, the Church.

*As defined by the biological sex/gender a person is born

The Kingdom of God and the Final Judgment

(Daniel 7:13-14, Revelation 19:11-16, Revelation 20:11-15)

We believe that God's Kingdom has come in the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, that it continues to come in the ministry of the Spirit through the Church, and that it will be consummated in the glorious, visible, and triumphant appearing of Christ-His return to the earth as King.

After Christ returns to reign, He will bring about the final defeat of Satan and all of his minions and works, the resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the eternal blessing of the righteous and eternal conscious punishment of the wicked. Finally, God will be all in all, and His Kingdom, His rule and reign will be fulfilled in the new heavens and the new earth, recreated by His mighty power, in which righteousness dwells and in which He will forever be worshiped.

5. What Is Our Structure?

Structure provides a framework upon which to build. Without structure and organization, there is chaos.

For God is not a God of disorder; but of peace... But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. 1- Corinthians 14:33, 40 NIV

The structure of Velocity facilitates growth, ministry, and unity under an umbrella of

accountability. The structure of the church should not be determined by culture, business practices, or even denominational traditions.

Believers who invest their hearts, time, families, and finances in the building of a local church deserve to have confidence in church leadership. People are looking for leaders who conduct themselves with integrity and respect when making decisions that affect their lives.

Velocity Church is an Elder led church with OUTSIDE accountability. We believe in servant leadership, and it is the privilege of the pastoral staff to lead the church in the day-to-day operations.

We have four teams in place that make up our church structure.

1. Advisors - The Lead Pastor is directly overseen by a group of separate (outside Velocity) accountability partners.

2. Senior Leader - Pastor Greg Pavloff is the senior leader and Lead Pastor.

3. Board of Elders -The board of elders is the official board of Velocity Church. It is made up of the Lead Pastor and leaders from within this church who meet the Titus 1 and 1Timothy 3 qualifications and have a deep love for and a relationship with Velocity. The Board of Elders is responsible for the following, but not limited to:

  • Providing spiritual council and prayer to the Lead Pastor
  • Determining the Lead Pastor's compensation

•  Approving annual budgets

  • Approving any acquisitions, land purchases, and building construction
  • Establishing governing policy and protocol

4. Members - Members are the fully committed church body that are being equipped by the pastor and staff to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12) and fulfilling the elements of the Membership Commitment.

For pastoral care, contact:

6. What Is The Radiant Network of Churches?

Velocity Church is a part of a larger network of churches around the United States. The Radiant Network of Churches was founded by Pastor Lee Cummings who serves as the Senior Pastor and Senior Leader of Radiant Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan

For more information about the Radiant Network of Churches please visit: radiant.network

7. How Do We View Membership?

The difference between "attendee" and "member" can be summed up in one word: commitment.

An attendee is a CONSUMER - someone on the receiving end.

A person who becomes a member is a CONTRIBUTOR - a member who is actively involved and engaged in the mission.

Four primary reasons why being a member is important:

A Biblical Reason: Christ is devoted to the Church. Christ loved the church and gave his life for it. - Ephesians 5:25 NCV

A Cultural Reason: It is the antidote to lack of commitment in our society. We live in a culture where few want to commit to anything - a job, a marriage, etc. This attitude has produced a generation of people who never fully see the long-term results of dedication. Commitment is an unselfish decision with major benefits.

A Practical Reason: It defines who can be counted on. Every team must have a roster. Every army has an enlistment. Members identify our family. It's a practical way to identify those who support God's vision at Velocity.

A Personal Reason: It produces spiritual growth. The New Testament places a major emphasis on the need for Christians to be accountable to each other for spiritual growth. You cannot be accountable when you're not committed to any specific church family.

Requirements for becoming a member of Velocity Church.

1. Individuals must be followers of Jesus Christ.

2. Individuals must complete the following steps:

• We believe in excellence.

We do what we do as well as we can do it, looking for ways to do it better.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. - Ecclesiastes 9:10 ESV

•We keep our commitments.

We do all things as unto the Lord as if lives depend on it - because they do.

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. - Colossians 3:23 NLT

•We maintain our flexibility.

Change is constant; therefore, we must have a posture that welcomes and embraces it.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. -Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV

"And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the

skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins." Mark 2:22 NIV

  • We practice celebration.

We celebrate the wins as we see lives changed by Christ.

Serve the LORD with gladness! - Psalm 100:2 KJV

"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." Luke 15:10 NIV
